“Sew for Vets” Community Sew Day
Sew For Vets is a volunteer organization that sews personal care items which are then given to veterans. It operates out of at the Delta Senior Center and meets twice monthly from January to June and from September to November. Members are dedicated to helping veterans.
Quilting On the Line was well represented at Sew for Vets’ annual Community Sew Day which was held on May 18th at the Delta Senior Center. Participants worked together making 25 reversible fleece hats. The hats are made from two layers of fleece, and they will be distributed to veterans.
QOL members Anita Lowe, Virginia Buckingham, Debby Nelson, Sandra Johnson, Susan Kern, and Mary Banister sewed on the project. Sew For Vets was very pleased to have such capable hands helping

Alice Steele “Laura Heine” teacher certification!
Congratulations Alice Steele! We’re proud to announce that Alice has earned the “Laura Heine Collage” teacher certification!
This intense class taught in Billings, Montana encompassed the Laura Heine collage techniques, the supplies she endorses and the secrets of making a successful collage quilt! Alice spent time with Laura Heine in her shop explaining how to choose fabrics, kits, collate, fold and merchandise collage kits. Alice is now ready to develop her own kits and offer classes using the Laura Heine method!

Carly Mul teaching workshop Freestyle Color Collage
The Courthouse Quilters Guild of Flemington is welcoming Carly Mul this month to teach a 2-day workshop on Freestyle Color Collage. She was recently featured on The Quilt Show. The workshop will be on July 18th and 19th , from 1 – 4pm each day. The cost of the workshop is $50 plus the required $16 kit (containing the fusible backing). Students will need to bring a large stash of scraps, focusing on either a warm or cool palette. The scraps don’t need to be large, but you’ll want a good variety of prints (no solids). This class is an advanced class for color collage. Students will learn not only how to make lines in color, but also how to connect them by blending fabrics. It’s a way to learn how to work with colors using the collage technique. The class is very open and unrestricted as there is no specific pattern or design to follow. The flow of the colors will create a pattern. During the class, students will work on their layout. No sewing machine is needed. I will guide every student in person and offer instructions on how to finish at home. The result is an abstract art quilt. This is meant to be a wall-hanging on its own, or become part of a wall-hanging.

I also offer a hands-on workshop. We begin by reviewing a wide range of panel quilt examples, then move into an interactive design session using participants’ own panels and fabrics.
By the end, quilters feel prepared to approach any panel—regardless of style or size.
The lecture can be in-person or via Zoom. The workshop is presented in-person only.
